Deidre DeFranceaux

Deidre DeFranceaux is a mixed media painter, sculptor, and installation artist whose current work centers on monumental oil portraits with sculptural and 3 dimensional elements that are encased in epoxy resin. She has embarked on a Legacy Series featuring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (a charitable organization of queer and trans nuns, founded in San Francisco in 1979, whose stated goals are the expiation of stigmatic guilt and the promulgation of universal joy.) as modern day icons. These 7-9 ft paintings, like the Sisters, are highly embellished, break the box in every direction, and command attention.

Deidre has been deeply immersed in the Bay Area Art Scene for 34 years, and received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1997. She has taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, the College of Marin, ASUC Berkeley, The Perserverance of Space and Mass Foundation, and the San Francisco Waldorf High School.

Her work has been exhibited at the DeYoung Museum, The Randall Museum, San Francisco City Hall, The Harvey Milk Center, SoMARTS, and the Millenium Arts Center. Her work has been featured in ARTNews, New American Painting, the Leonardo Journal, and World Sculpture News. She has been awarded grants by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (in conjunction with the San Francisco Arts Commission), The Burning Man Organization, and the SF Foundation. She was a resident artist with Red Ink Studios and The San Francisco Arts Education Project.
